Self‐reporting fluorescence deciphers the antibacterial nature of cationic amphiphiles: Monomer or aggregate?

چکیده

Cationic amphiphile aggregates exhibit superior antibacterial activity than monomers. However, the antimicrobial mechanism of has not been well understood because it is difficult to distinguish and monitor aggregate monomer in process. Herein, three bola-type cationic amphiphiles with aggregation-induced emission property have developed show distinguishable fluorescence their aggregate. The hydrophilicity stability are finely tuned by tailoring linkers between two quaternary ammonium end groups tetraphenylethylene skeleton. sensitive switching achieves quantitative monitoring dynamic interaction bacteria. charges first attach bacterial surface, monomers subsequently dissociate from penetrate membrane. Further, our results reveal vital role during process, shedding light on rational design high-efficient antimicrobials.

Cationic Self-Assembling Peptide Amphiphiles as Antibacterial Agents Against Drug-Resistant Bacteria

Introduction: Bacterial antibiotic resistance has become one of the biggest threats to global health. In the United States alone, at least 2 million cases of illness and 23,000 of deaths are caused by antibioticresistant bacteria annually. The overuse of antibiotics is the most important factor responsible to the development of antibiotic resistance around the world [1]. To overcome bacterial d...

Antibacterial Activity of Cationic Proteins

A B S T R A, C T Human granulocytes contain several cationic proteins with a molecular weight of approximately 25,000, almost identical amino acid composition, and complete immunologic identity. These proteins possess a chymotrypsin-like protease activity at a neutral pH. The antibacterial activity of the cationic proteins has been studied. Bactericidal activities are found against both Gram-po...

Cationic facial amphiphiles: a promising class of transfection agents.

A promising class of compounds for DNA transfection have been designed by conjugating various polyamines to bile-acid-based amphiphiles. Formulations containing these compounds were tested for their ability to facilitate the uptake of a beta-galactosidase reporter plasmid into COS-7 cells. Dioleoyl phosphatidyl ethanolamine (DOPE) formulations of some of the compounds were several times better ...

Cationic triple-chain amphiphiles facilitate vesicle fusion compared to double-chain or single-chain analogues.

Cationic, triple-chain amphiphiles promote vesicle fusion more than structurally related double-chain or single-chain analogues. Two types of vesicle fusion experiments were conducted, mixing of oppositely charged vesicles and acid-triggered self-fusion of vesicles composed of cationic amphiphile and anionic cholesteryl hemisuccinate (CHEMS). Vesicle fusion was monitored by standard fluorescenc...

Novel cationic amphiphiles as delivery agents for antisense oligonucleotides.

There has been great interest recently in therapeutic use of nucleic acids including genes, ribozymes and antisense oligonucleotides. Despite recent improvements in delivering antisense oligonucleotides to cells in culture, nucleic acid-based therapy is still often limited by the poor penetration of the nucleic acid into the cytoplasm and nucleus of cells. In this report we describe nucleic aci...
